Recreation
Therapeutic Recreation uses treatment, education and recreation services to help people with illnesses, disabilities and other conditions to develop and use their leisure in ways that enhance their health, functional abilities, independence and quality of life.
An organized Recreation program is offered to all patients on the Acute Care unit upon referral by physician or other qualified professionals. All patients on the Continuing Care unit are included in the Recreation program. Recreation is offered Monday to Friday on a regular basis within RVH. Occasional evenings and weekends are scheduled to accommodate programs offered. A calendar of events is posted in patient rooms and outside the Recreation Department.
The program consists of, but is not limited to breakfast groups, exercise, newspaper group, crafts, hymn sings, Adopt-A-Grandparent program, movies, making our own lunch, monthly non-denominational church services, birthday parties, euchre, baking, trivia games, games day, summer programs (picnics, BBQ's, cottage day excursions, Bluegrass Festival) horticulture, Pet Therapy, trip to view the leaves, Renfrew fair, shared programs with Bonnechere Manor, Groves Park Lodge, and Quail Creek Retirement Center, special monthly theme events (Western Day, Mexican Day, Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, Christmas, etc.) and much, much more!
The Recreation Department is privileged to have approximately 52 volunteers who lend their time and talents to ensure that all programs are carried out. Whether they bring music, time, laughter, a friendly ear or an encouraging smile, every volunteer is appreciated.
