“Ladies With A Mission” Deliver Warmth and Comfort to Dialysis Patients

Whitewater, ON — A heartfelt act of kindness is bringing warmth—literally and emotionally—to dialysis patients throughout Renfrew County, thanks to a group of dedicated women from Whitewater Wesleyan Community Church.
On a mission to provide comfort to those undergoing dialysis, the group known as Ladies With A Mission (LWAM), comprised of 9 ladies from the church recently donated 21 handmade quilts to the hospital’s dialysis program. Each quilt, lovingly crafted by members of the church, arrived in a cheerful canvas bag bearing the uplifting message: “Good Vibes Only.”
The initiative began when member Isabel Johnston approached a hospital staff member about donating quilts made by the women in her church after a member of their church family was impacted by dialysis and it inspired the ladies to start this project. At the time, the group had around 10 quilts ready. But when Johnston arrived this week, she brought more than double that number—21 in total.
“These quilts are such a welcome and comforting gift,” said Krista, RVH Nephrology Social Worker, who distributes the quilts to new dialysis patients. “Our patients often feel cold during treatment, and these quilts provide not just warmth, but a sense of care and community.”
This isn’t the first time the hospital has been touched by the kindness of local quilters. Over 15 years ago, a group called The Haley Quilting Grannies—formed by the mother of two dialysis patients—began donating hundreds of quilts.
“This is truly a feel-good story,” Krista added. “It’s my absolute pleasure to be able to give out these quilts. They’re more than just fabric—they’re a symbol of love and support that are greatly appreciated by our patients.”
