Ontario Expanding Hospital Capacity in Renfrew
January 27, 2025
Robb Tripp, RVH Board Chair, and John Yakabuski, MPP Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke.
The Ontario government is connecting people in Renfrew and across Eastern Ontario to new, more modern services with new acute care and complex continuing care units at Renfrew Victoria Hospital.
“This is truly a transformational development we are addressing today. The Renfrew Victoria Hospital which has delivered first class healthcare in spite of the aged condition of the second floor, will now be able to look forward to continuing the tremendously high standard of care in a facility redeveloped and modernized. This will allow for even greater efficiency and most importantly, a level of comfort that patients should expect and deserve. I look forward to monitoring its progress,” said MPP Yakabuski.
This announcement provides RVH with the assurance to continue building for the future, stated Rob Tripp, RVH Board Chair.
“With this funding commitment from the Ministry of Health, we can confidently move forward with plans to expand and refurbish our hospital, and continue to provide the best possible care close to home for our patients. We are grateful to the Ministry for its support,” said Tripp.
Through this investment, Renfrew Victoria Hospital will be renovated and expanded to build new acute care and complex continuing care inpatient units, enabling the hospital to meet the ongoing needs of patients and their families in Renfrew and the surrounding community, for years to come. Once opened, the redeveloped hospital will ensure contemporary standards for optimal patient care, including infection control and prevention, accessibility, privacy, staff safety, family involvement, efficient operations and long-term sustainability for Renfrew County residents.
“Our government is making record investments to connect more people to the care they need, when they need it, no matter where they live,” said Sylvia Jones, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health. “With Renfrew Victoria Hospital’s expanded acute and complex continuing care units, we are making it faster and easier for more families across Eastern Ontario to access high-quality care in their community, for years to come.”
As a next step, the ministry is working with Renfrew Victoria Hospital to complete early planning and design for this project. Once future planning is complete and the project is tendered and awarded, a construction schedule will be confirmed.
Through Your Health: A Plan for Connected and Convenient Care, the Ontario government is expanding and modernizing Ontario’s hospitals, making it faster and easier for people of all ages to connect to the high-quality care they need, where and when they need it.
