Doctors Emily Curley and Kordan Harvey have joined the RVH medical staff as Internal Medicine physicians as of January 1, 2024.

They both practice at The Ottawa Hospital (TOH) as well, and will be on site at RVH one week each month, with Dr. Harvey’s first week January 13-19 and Dr. Curley beginning January 20-26.

The Internal Medicine specialty focuses on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of conditions affecting the internal organs of adults.

"Having internal medicine specialists greatly improves our community's access to exceptional knowledge of complex and rare diseases. They help bring another perspective on difficult cases and are a very welcome addition to the family of physicians at RVH. We cannot wait to work with them!" stated Dr. Corey Nixon.

Drs. Curley and Harvey will be available to the Emergency Department and inpatient units for consultations and will hold a Rapid Referral Clinic for ED and inpatient referrals. They will also read ECGs, pulmonary function and treadmill exercise stress tests, and provide procedures when they are on site.

“Having access to internal medicine can sometimes prevent the need for an admission, as they can see the patient in consult in the ER, order investigations and then follow up as an outpatient,” notes Dr. Candice Cybulskie, Family and ED Physician and Hospitalist. “Drs. Curley and Harvey are great additions to our internal medicine team, expanding on the excellent care that Dr. Shanti Nemani has provided for many years at RVH. It is exciting to have others join him!”

Dr. Curley earned a Bachelor of Science (Biology and Health Promotion) from Dalhousie University in 2014 followed by a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery and Graduate Entry Medical School at the University of Limerick in Ireland. She completed an Internal Medicine Residency and General Internal Medicine Fellowship at the University of Ottawa. Along the way she has amassed research experience, received grants, given presentations, co-authored papers and has leadership and teaching experience.

Dr. Curley shared that she is “originally from a small town on the East Coast and wanted to have a diverse practice that would also service a rural community similar to the one I grew up in, which made Renfrew attractive.”

“In addition, RVH has implemented a new model of care, which is shared with the academic centre of The Ottawa Hospital, and this shared model allows me to work at both centres, scratching that 'diverse practice' itch for me. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, traveling, music, and reading a good mystery,” she added.

After her first week at RVH, Dr. Curley noted that everyone was super welcoming. “I look forward to continuing to provide care here!”

Dr. Harvey is an early-career physician, grew up in Kenora, Ontario and did his medical school in Dublin, Ireland. He first attended Queen’s University, Kingston, for his Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Life Science, and to the University of Toronto for a Master of Science in Laboratory Medicine & Pathology, followed by the University College Dublin, Ireland for a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery and Bachelor in the Art of Obstetrics. His post-graduate training – General Internal Medicine and Internal Medicine took place at the University of Ottawa. He also has been involved in research, presentations, posters and publications, and has leadership and teaching experience.

“I am now a staff physician at TOH and am interested in community/rural medicine and regional integration of services so that the expertise and cutting-edge medicine developed in academic centres can help patients closer to where they live and work. I have an academic interest in leadership development and point of care ultrasound. I am looking forward to the collegial atmosphere at RVH and to working closely with the existing team on developing and expanding our offerings,” said Dr. Harvey.

On the personal side, Dr. Harvey shared, “My wife is a pediatric ICU nurse at CHEO and we have two children, enjoy cycling, fishing, and spending time outdoors.”

This is another in a long list of partnerships, including surgery, oncology, nephrology, and radiology, that RVH has solidified over the years to bring needed services to Renfrew and the surrounding area.

“We welcome Dr. Curley and Dr. Harvey to Renfrew Victoria Hospital. Offering these services close to home will be very beneficial to our physicians, staff, patients and our community,” stated Julia Boudreau, RVH President & CEO, adding a huge “thank you to Dr. Nemani who has been at RVH for more than 12 years, and is staying on to work with Drs. Curley and Harvey.
