DescriptionEmployment Opportunity # 26-61 PEER SUPPORT WORKER, Permanent, Full-Time, Pembroke Renfrew County Youth Wellness Hub Background Ontario’s youth and young adults continue to experience challenges and barriers to accessing mental health resources in their communities. The Youth Wellness Hubs Ontario Initiative aims to bring the right services to youth and their families in the form of youth hubs that serve as fully integrated “one-stop-shops” for youth aged 12-25. These Youth Wellness Hubs will address needs related to mental health, substance abuse, primary care, education, employment, training, housing and other community and social services. Come join us! As a result of internal movement at RVH, we are hiring a full-time Peer Support Worker with our Youth Wellness Hubs Ontario.
Pay Grid: $26.68 - $32.42 /hour
Job Summary With two locations one in Pembroke and one in Renfrew, the Peer Support Worker will provide support to youth who access services and recreation at the Renfrew County Youth Wellness Hub Ontario (YWHO). They will support and assist in creating a safe and accepting environment for youth (12-25 years old) with a special emphasis on the 2SLGBTQ+, Indigenous youth and other marginalized community youth. Responsibilities ● Welcome and introduce new youth to YWHO staff and other youth and the Hub ● Explain the digital registration process and provide assistance if appropriate ● Provide positive engagement with youth. ● Refer any youth in need of crisis, mental health, or other core service supports to clinical staff ● Work towards creating an inclusive culture with youth in a supportive and respectful manner ● Work from a harm reduction and youth-centered approach ● Facilitate planned activities with youth ● Facilitate and implement group workshops ● Be able to co-create life skill and social skill groups ● Set-up and implement skills and well-being activities under the direction of the Hub Team Lead ● Co-lead programs in person or virtually as required ● Other duties may be requiredQualificationsQualifications/Skills/Experience ● Excellent communication/interpersonal skills ● Education and/or work experience in social services or related field ● Lived experience with mental health and/or substance use issues is an asset ● Ability to create a non-judgmental, inclusive youth-friendly environment where youth feel valued ● Knowledge of community resources and familiarity of Renfrew County is an asset ● Basic kitchen skills and knowledge of corresponding health and safety practices (food handling course) is an asset ● Willingness to attend a variety of training such as peer support, nonviolent crisis intervention, anti-oppression, etc. ● Bilingualism (French/English) is a requirement ● A satisfactory and current Vulnerable Sector Screening is a requirement ● Able to work a variety of hours include evenings, weekends and weekdays is a requirement ● Valid First Aid & CPR certificate or willingness to obtain.
