As a result of internal movement, we are hiring a temporary part-time kitchen assistant, within our Food Services Department.
Pay Grid: $25.33 - $ 26.35 /hour
The Kitchen Assistant contributes to the organization and serving of meals and nourishments to patients, staff and catering functions; assists cooks with food preparation; performs cleaning, ware washing and housekeeping duties in the kitchen area, dish room and cafeteria. KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Prepares sandwiches, salads, beverages and other basic foods. • Prepares foods and equipment for service in cafeteria and replenishes food as required. • Serves meals to staff and visitors to cafeteria • Receives cash payment and makes change for meals, catering and bulk food. Totals cash, completes the cafeteria cash counter sheets. Takes cash to Admitting of Finance Department. • Prepares food for vending machine and stocks vending cart. • Cleans tables in cafeteria, cleans and sanitizes food cabinets, counters, carts and shelves etc. in kitchen and café area. • Refills condiments, paper products as needed daily • Delivers completed meal trays or trolleys to nursing units. • Prepares and delivers items to catered events when required. • Updates nourishments lists and delivers scheduled nourishments to nursing units, and any delayed trays or new trays. • Inventories, prepares and delivers ward supplies to nursing units and dialysis unit. Replenishes nursing kitchens with clean glasses and cups. • Collects dietary report from nursing units, updates patient diet information in Synergy, prints and organizes meal tickets and menus before each meal. • Assists with serving meals for Meals on Wheels. • Prepares meal assembly pod for meals and serves patient meal trays. • Checks each meal tray for accuracy and attractive presentation. • Measures and dispenses appropriate types and quantities of food and beverages on patient meal trays according to meal tickets and menus. • Collects trolleys from nursing units after completion of meals and returns to kitchen, clears trays, racks, dirty dishes and cutlery. • Washes dishes and pots. • Replenishes detergent and other cleaning products as needed for proper cleaning and sanitizing • Returns clean dishware and food preparation/serving equipment for reuse. • Ensures that the refrigerators, freezers, pantry, office, etc., are locked at the end of the day as per departmental procedures. • Promotes a safe working environment and works safely. • Adheres to sanitation policies and guidelines. • Adheres to acceptable personal and departmental hygiene standards and practices. • Participates in Quality Assurance Programs as directed. • Demonstrates careful and efficient use of supplies and equipment. • Attends in-service programs as required. • Willing to function as a team member. • Available for shift work and to meet obligation to employer. • Must demonstrate ability to work with people and be customer service focused. • Performs other duties as assigned.
QualificationsQualifications: • Knowledge of and relevant prior experience in general dietary procedures and routines. • Customer service skills and experience working with the public essential. • Experience working with cash register preferred. • Experience with salad/sandwich preparation and food garnishing preferred. • Previous experience in an institutional kitchen preferred. • Current Food Handler Training Certificate essential. • Ability to perform duties within the physical demands of the work area. • Ability to work in a fast paced environment within scheduled time restrictions. • Collects dietary report from nursing units, updates patient diet information in Synergy, prints and organizes meal tickets and menus before each meal.
