The Renfrew Victoria Hospital (RVH) is a 55-bed, fully accredited facility located just 45 minutes west of Ottawa, serving a catchment area of over 60,000. Part of the Renfrew and Area Health Village, RVH provides medical, surgical and complex continuing care as well as extensive ambulatory care with over 30,000 emergency and clinic visits per year.

Pay Grid: $26.87 - $27.85 /hour.
The Cook prepares a large variety of foods in the quantities directed for patients, meals on wheels, cafeteria, catering and cafeteria vending machine.
Duties will include but are not limited to:
· Determines the types and quantities of food to prepare by referring to established menu schedules, meal counts in Synergy and historical knowledge to minimize food waste. · Uses standardized recipes where applicable · Prepares and schedules preparation of the day’s menu. · Prepares and cooks all hot dishes required · Prepares sandwiches and salads as required · Prepares and bakes deserts for lunch and supper. · Prepares special diet meals and modifies to appropriate diet texture · Prepares cook’s cart with items required for the next day. Preps items for next day. · Prepares hot meals and snacks for catered functions. · Stores and organizes food items in proper storage areas. · Labels, dates and refrigerates leftover food. · Assists in maintenance of quality control by checking temperatures of refrigerators, freezers and stoves. · Cleans and sanitizes cook table, meat slicer, baking table and ovens on daily basis. Leaves workstation clean and sanitized at the end of their shift. · Ensures that temperature of food has met the departmental standard then delivers hot food items to pod steamtable and cafeteria serving area. · Reports shortages, service and equipment problems, etc. to Director of Food Services. · Measures and dispenses appropriate types of food on patient meal trays according to meal tickets and menus at dinner. · Replaces staff in absence of Director of Food Services according to the dietary department call-in procedure policy. · Serves customers in the cafeteria when required, process payments through cash · When working the cafeteria cook shift, counts the cash drawer at the end of the shift and follows proper cash handling procedures · Promotes a safe working environment and works safely. · Adheres to sanitation policies and guidelines. · Adheres to acceptable personal and departmental hygiene standards and practices. · Participates in Quality Assurance Programs as directed. · Demonstrates careful and efficient use of supplies and equipment. · Attends in-service programs as required. · Willing to function as a team member. · Available for shift work and to meet obligation to employer. · Must demonstrate ability to work with people. QualificationsQualifications:
· Red Seal Cook Certification or ability to challenge Red Seal Cook Certification exam. · Food Handlers Certification Program required. · Two year’s cooking experience in a Health Care setting preferred. · Knowledge of and relevant prior experience in general dietary procedures, therapeutic diets and menu preparation. · Organizational abilities. · Ability to work well with others. · Knowledge of and relevant experience with computer systems an asset. · Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and perform duties within the physical demands of the work area.
