Pay Grid: $26.87 - $27.85/hourly Union: CUPE
Reporting to the Manager, Clinical Records/ Communications at RVH, the The Admitting/Switchboard Clerk performs procedures to ensure the orderly admissions and discharges of individual patients; facilitates hospital communications by operating a telephone switchboard; serves as a receptionist to assist visitors and callers; and performs other related duties. Duties will include but are not limited to: Admitting Duties • Initiates Rapid Response notifications (fire, cardiac arrest, bomb threats, etc.) • Receives pre-admission notification and contacts patients to obtain information required for pre-admission procedure. • Receives patients and accompanying individuals and provides general information regarding Hospital policies and services. • Interviews patients or their representatives to determine the patient’s name, attending physician, hospitalization coverage and other required information for admissions and emergency room visits. • Answers funeral home phone (nights) giving callers funeral arrangements for deceased. Take messages for the Directors. • Completes various forms associated with the admitting process including pre-admission/admission forms, outpatient admission forms, consent and waiver forms, discharge planning admission report, admitting register, out-of-province patient forms and other similar forms and obtains required signatures for same. • Accepts and registers patient valuables for safekeeping as necessary and provides corresponding receipts.
Switchboard Duties • Answers incoming telephone calls and relays calls to appropriate locals. • Records and relays telephone messages when initial calls are unanswered. • Transfers calls from one local to another upon request. • Places long distance phone calls (locating of specialists for ER doctor) and maintains related records for administrative purposes. • Answer phone for Sexual Assault for both Pembroke and Renfrew. • Locate physicians in our hospital for other hospitals. • Responds to emergency situations such as cardiac arrest, fire etc. in accordance with established hospital procedures. • Operates paging system and physicians’ duty board system.
QualificationsQualifications: • Grade XII • Must type at least 40 words per minute • Organizational skills • Experience in dealing with the public • Ability to work as a team • Ability to work in a fast paced environment • Must be able to work independently, problem solve, and make decisions. • Deal professionally with each client.
