Come join us! As a result internal changes at RVH, we are hiring a Casual Pharmacy Technician with our Pharmacy Department.
Pay Grid: $33.07 - $38.10 /hour
Reporting to the Integrated Director, Pharmacy Services, the Pharmacy Technician carries out technical aspects of drug distribution, sterile compounding and day-to-day operation of the Pharmacy department according to established policies and procedures.
Duties will include but are not limited to: • Performs all expected actions associated with drug distribution throughout the hospital. • Carries out quality assurance inspections of drug storage area in hospital. • Maintains inventory control (prepares and places purchase orders according to various contracts and usual minimum/maximum levels, receives and stores products, completes paperwork, process expired and unserviceable medications). • Monitors narcotic and controlled drug distribution (including destruction), including maintenance of proper records and work to resolve and document discrepancies. • Recycles serviceable medications into stock. • Charges out items to individual departments. • Prepares end-of-month financial statements.8. Carries out physical inventory at year end. • Carries out other projects as needed. • Responsible for day-to-day operation of the department in the pharmacist’s absence. • Perform hazardous and non-hazardous sterile compounding in compliance with NAPRA standards for sterile compounding. • Report any identified drug therapy to the clinical pharmacist for assessment and follow-up. • Perform data collection and audits to support the quality improvement program of the department and hospital.
QualificationsQualifications: • Registration as a Certified Pharmacy Technician with the Ontario College of Pharmacists (mandatory) • Certification in Sterile Compounding Preparation from an approved Sterile Compounding Supervisor as defined by the NAPRA Model Standards for Pharmacy Compounding of Hazardous and Non-Hazardous Sterile Preparations • Requires a good knowledge of computer operations, purchasing and inventory/supply management. • Good decision-making skills, communication and interpersonal skills are required. • Must have a good understanding of professional ethics and a willingness to work as a team member with other professional staff coupled with an ability to provide patient-oriented services.
