Come join us! As a result of an upcoming maternity leave at RVH, we are hiring a Temporary Full-Time Registered Nurse our Regional Assault Care Program.
Pay Grid: $40.24 - $57.68 /hour
As part of a mobile on-call nursing team, nurses provide acute, follow up and outpatient health/forensic care to women, men and children who are victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, elder abuse and child maltreatment. Care is provided in the emergency departments/outpatient settings of all 5 hospitals in Renfrew County. Nurses also provide home assessments with older adults. Position involves liaison with community partners and the development/delivery of public education on abuse prevention and RACP services.
Duties will include but are not limited to: • Provide emergency, follow-up and community case management client care during weekday office hours. • Provide a minimum of 128 hours of on-call availability per month for emergency client care. Availability for days, evenings, nights, 2 weekends per month and stat holidays. • Assess the physical, mental and emotional status of clients as well as their coping strategies, support systems, resources, etc. • Provide appropriate information and referrals to community agencies i.e. emergency shelters, legal and counselling agencies, etc. • Provide emotional support, reassurance, validation, and crisis counselling. • Complete risk assessments and safety planning. • Understand and explain options of care in the RACP/OAPS, while respecting the client’s right to self-determination. • Collect and/or assist emergency room physician with collection of forensic specimens and ensures continuity of all evidence. • Carry out prescribed treatments according to RACP medical directives or Physician orders. • Provide client care according to standards of practice and hospital values and philosophy. • Ensure a safe environment for client care. • Maintain thorough and accurate documentation according to established criteria. • Complete requisitions and label laboratory specimens according to hospital site procedures. • Restore treatment room after use and replaces any used equipment and/or supplies. QualificationsQualifications: • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario. • Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner training with the Ontario Network of Sexual Assault/Domestic Violence Treatment Centers preferred • SANE(A) certification with the International Association of Forensic Nurses preferred • Pediatric Sexual Abuse Training preferred • Geriatric Assessment Training preferred • Risk Assessment training (ODARA, Danger Assessment, EARA) preferred • Minimum of three to five years nursing experience in forensic nursing, mental health, community, public health or acute care preferred. • Experience and understanding of issues related to sexual assault, domestic violence, elder abuse, child maltreatment and crisis intervention. • Excellent physical assessment skills • Demonstrated excellence in communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills. • Experience teaching and developing public education materials. • Computer skills required. • Demonstrated commitment to work cooperatively within a team environment. • The candidate must be self-directed, have the ability to respond to a call for service and attend in the Emergency Department of the RVH and Pembroke Regional Hospital within 60 minutes. • Able to take call for the program on weekdays, weekends and holidays. • Valid driver’s license and the ability to travel throughout Renfrew County are required. • Orientation and on-going education will be provided to successful applicants. • Bilingualism an asset.
