Pay Grid: $54.57 - $66.33 /hour
Reporting to the Professional Practice Manager, the Nursing Coordinator assists the V.P. in the supervision and direction of patient care and assumes a leadership role in crisis intervention and ensures proper use of hospital resources and beds. The coordinator is accountable for all aspects of patient care and services within the hospital on shift. This accountability extends to the quality of care delivered; patient safety, as well as the efficient cost-effective utilization of hospital resources and mentoring/educating staff as needed. All responsibilities should be carried out according to the mission, vision and values of the hospital. Duties will include but are not limited to: • Support, implement and interpret the mission, vision, values and objectives of the hospital and the Patient Care Services department. • Plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate patient care, human resources, environment, equipment and supplies on hours of shifts. • Demonstrate adherence to legal and ethical standards. • Analyse workload and plan staffing patterns for the coming shifts. The Coordinator is responsible for replacing all sick calls. • Report all unusual occurrences/incidents and action taken to resolve them to the V.P. of Patient Care Services. • Liaise with the multidisciplinary team, medical staff, department heads to investigate and resolve problems during shift. • Liaise with external partners: EMS, OPP, LTCH etc. • Define and maintain clear lines of communication internally as well as with community agencies and professional organizations. • Responds to client/family/visitor issues to problem solve & deescalate; But escalates to Senior Management or the appropriate unit manager as required • Contribute actively to committees as required both internally and externally. • Conduct all staff and patient interactions as well as management processes in a manner that recognizes the inherent dignity of the human person and follows mission, vision values of the hospital. • Responsible for staffing all areas of hospital including satellite sites PRH & Barry’s Bay dialysis units. • Responsible for booking escorts, augmenting staffing ratios to maintain safety on units in response to acuity and/or volume pressures or safety i.e. Form 1. • Enact and lead all emergency response activities (including codes) • The nursing coordinator is responsible for coaching/counselling and escalation to management or Senior Management as necessary. • Counsel and discipline staff when required on shift. • Ensure good working relationships are established with all employees and union contracts are followed. • Staff safety. Monitor and ensure a safe environment for staff. It is every employee’s responsibility to identify, reduce and manage risk. Information will be shared regarding potential risks and to improve services. When incidents do occur, they are identified, reported and recorded in a timely manner to ensure ongoing improvements are made. • Mentorship of new hires and junior staffing for safe care & risk mitigation.
QualificationsQualifications: • Strong clinical skills and experience in Medical/Surgical and Emergency Room settings/Stepdown ICU/ECG Interpretation/critical care skill/ventilation/BIPAP. • Current Certificate of Competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario. • Demonstrated knowledge of emergency, acute, intensive care and related skills and judgement. • ACLS, C.P.R. and I.V. Certifications. • Excellent communication, organizational and team leadership skills to effectively direct staff and co-ordinate the interdisciplinary plan of patient care and patient flow in the hospital. • Demonstrated effective skills in the provision of family support integral to provide client-centered care. • Familiarity with a unionized setting and staffing practices will be considered strong assets. • Nursing leadership courses or evidence of continuing learning an asset. • Ability to work independently and to perform duties in the physical demands of work area. • Demonstrates effective use of a computer for EHR (EPIC) documentation purposes.
