DescriptionRENFREW VICTORIA HOSPITAL Addictions Counsellor Temporary, Full Time (Contract) The Renfrew Victoria Hospital (RVH) is a 55-bed, fully accredited facility located just 45 minutes west of Ottawa, serving a catchment area of over 60,000. Part of the Renfrew and Area Health Village, RVH provides medical, surgical and complex continuing care as well as extensive ambulatory care with over 30,000 emergency and clinic visits per year. We also support our communities outside the hospital, throughout Renfrew County, via a number of different programs, including our Addictions Treatment Service (ATS) which offers confidential assistance to individuals 12 years of age or older who are personally experiencing problems with alcohol, drugs or gambling. As a result of a vacancy at RVH, we are hiring a temporary part-time Addictions Counsellor with our Addictions Treatment Service (ATS) program.
Pay Grid: $35.14 -$42.71 /hour
QualificationsReporting to the Director, Addictions Treatment Service, the Addiction Counsellor conducts client assessments, counsels clients and refers to appropriate agencies for follow-up and performs other related duties. This contract role will be physically located in the Health Care Centre of the Algonquins of Pikwàkanagàn First Nation.
Duties will include but are not limited to: • Conducts client intake to service at Pikwakanagan; schedules assessments appointments, orientating referrals to service and the assessment process and completes intake form. • Conducts addiction specific assessments. • Completes all assessment documentation. • Negotiates signed, informed consent for release of information from clients. • Provides intake and assessment to family members as required. • Counsels and educates clients; identifies appropriate community resources to assist clients in meeting established goals. • Refers clients to treatment program, social service agencies etc. by contacting program/resources and making arrangements for clients to enter treatment/counselling; refers family members to community resources. • Monitors clients progress on their treatment plans and provides support/counselling to clients as needed. • Responds appropriately to crisis situations including client/family members and provides support counselling. • Engages in case consultation with other Health Care providers. • Completes Ministry of Health client statistics forms and all other related forms as required. • Maintains strict confidentiality of clients. • Participates in regular meetings and sub-committee work. • Provides consultation by telephone and/or in person. • Performs speaking engagements and promotes the service throughout Renfrew County. • Attends training programs for ongoing skill training
Qualifications: • Bachelor Degree in Social Services or Social Service Worker Diploma • Successful completion of an approved addictions counsellor program or equivalent • Strong interviewing and counselling skills • Demonstrated skills in problem gambling/addiction interventions, knowledge of community health and social service resources • Flexible/creative team member who works well independently and in groups using a client-centered, solution-focused approach. • Knowledge of and relevant experience with computer systems mandatory. • Ability to work without supervision and with accuracy meeting deadlines. • Ability to perform duties within the physical demands of the work area. • Experience in a similar capacity with a First Nations community or organization is an asset • Comprehensive knowledge of social service resources within the Renfrew County region • A Vulnerable Sector Check is mandatory for this position • Bilingualism (French/English) is an asset • Must hold a valid driver’s license and/or access to personal transportation for travel around the region
