On August 18, a small gathering at Renfrew Victoria Hospital witnessed the signing and officially welcomed physicians Candice Cybulskie and Corey Nixon to Renfrew.

“We’re very pleased to welcome these two physicians to Renfrew. They will be great assets to local healthcare and within our community,” noted Julia Boudreau, RVH President and CEO.

Dr. Cybulskie is a familiar face to patients in Renfrew, as she has been doing a locum here in family medicine clinics, and as an RVH hospitalist. She plans to open her own practice at 100 Health Village Lane when she completes another locum commitment which ends in March 2021.

“I know she will be a wonderful addition to the community and everyone already loves her,” said Patti Dillabough, Physician Recruiter.

Dr. Cybulskie did her undergrad at Western University in London, Ontario, and attended medical school at McMaster University in Hamilton, completing her family medicine residency there as well.

Dr. Cybulskie is a native of the Ottawa Valley.

“I grew up in Wilno and always knew that someday I would come back to live in the Ottawa Valley. My first visit to do a tour was when I was finishing my family medicine training and I remember thinking that I could picture myself working here. Over the last year I have worked in Renfrew as a locum physician and have found everyone so welcoming and supportive. The hospital has the small town feel that I am used to, yet has access to so many resources. It was a very easy decision for me to settle down and start my practice here,” shared Cybulskie.

Dr. Nixon comes to Renfrew from the Waterloo area. He completed his undergrad at Waterloo University, and went on to complete his bachelor of medicine, bachelor of surgery and bachelor of obstetrics at the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin, Ireland.

While completing his three-year residency in family medicine in Pittsburgh, PA, Dr. Nixon became a super user in EPIC, RVH’s new electronic health information system launched in June 2019.

“We’re really looking forward to having that knowledge here,” commented Dillabough.

Dr. Nixon recently completed his Canadian equivalency exams and is currently awaiting his College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) number to begin his practice in Renfrew. He will also join the team at 100 Health Village Lane.

Dr. Nixon previously spent some time in Renfrew shadowing Dr. Strader, liked what he found here, and always wanted to come back.

“I am really excited to come here and get started. Renfrew is the perfect place and has all the amenities,” said Nixon.

Both Cybulskie and Nixon reside in Renfrew.

“We’re extremely pleased that these two new physicians have chosen to establish their practices in Renfrew,” said Peter Emon on behalf of Renfrew & Area Health Services Village. “With the growing number of orphan patients who need a doctor and the number of physicians nearing retirement, this is great news for our community.”
