April 19-25 is National Volunteer Week 2020, a time to recognize and celebrate our volunteers for their dedication and generosity.

The theme this year is It’s time to applaud this country’s volunteers, and while we can’t gather with our volunteers to show our appreciation as is our custom, we want to applaud all they do for Renfrew Victoria Hospital.

Volunteers are involved with virtually every aspect of life at RVH... from greeting visitors at the door to front line care and sitting on Hospital and Foundation boards, notes Randy Penney, RVH President and CEO.

“We are grateful for the time, contributions and expertise our volunteers share with the hospital and the Foundation, most often behind the scenes, to help improve the experience we provide for our patients and their families,” says Penney.

Volunteers are one of RVH’s priceless treasures, adds Roxane Nolan, organizer of the annual RVH volunteer luncheon for many years.

“We value all that volunteers do to make RVH the special hospital that it is. When volunteers share their time, they make life better for those whose lives have been touched by their generosity. Regardless of how many hours volunteers choose to give, what they do makes a difference to our patients and to our community. We thank our volunteers and we look forward to seeing them back in their roles at RVH in the future,” states Nolan.

While RVH volunteers are entrenched in many areas and programs at RVH under normal circumstances, they have found new ways to contribute during the global COVID-19 pandemic, for example sewing masks and caps.

“The support we have received during the outbreak, in the form of supplies donated and support for staff and physicians has been remarkable,” says Patti Dillabough, RVH Foundation Executive Director. She also credits volunteers for the Foundation’s successes throughout the past year.

“From community fundraiser organizers, fashion show models, and ticket runners for our Catch the Ace lottery to all those who help with or participate in our events, the support we receive is nothing short of incredible. We couldn’t do it without you,” says Dillabough.
